Reading Ourselves

We must look at the beginning to understand the end. The most important thing as I work through my writing portfolio is that this semester was a progression in evolution so to speak of my  writing.  as you look at the beginning of my first piece of writing submitted to my last there are changes and there are things that have stayed the same.  what I’m going to do in this reflection here is go through the pieces and decide if I spent time and effort or did I just Breeze through it lazily.

Let us begin at the beginning and the beginning was in August heading to September when the local County and town fairs are taking place now the great Allentown fair was taking place a mere 5 minute walk from campus at my teacher’s request I headed down to see the sights smell the smells and experience a County Fair now I had already experienced the county fair back my home county of Westmoreland. So I walked over convinced my roommate  and two other roommates to walk over with me.  I got my roommate a funnel cake as he had not had a funnel cake before this was quickly remedied as I got him one freshly made out of the fryer I also got myself one.  I thought this was a good writing built solid was my first one out of the year so I’m a little rusty from not writing all summer I’d say it’s a good one all in all.  the next one I did was paraphrasing Paraphrasing two quotes from reading in class I think was good paraphrasing as paraphrasing depends on you’re understanding the material and your vocabulary to replace words and find similar meanings. The next one I did was titled what is a map at this point in the class we were discussing that Maps aren’t just road maps or geography such as a world map we were learning about the Mercator Projection and how it was flawed and learning about bias in maps. This next one is one of my personal favorites the two summaries of chapter 1 of Turchi’s maps of the imagination The first summary was quite simple as it was condensed chapter 1 into little paragraph however the next one was a lot more challenging As it required shrinking the entire chapter into a mere  150 characters. The 150 is deceiving  as it may sound like a lot but that is characters so letters and spaces all count towards that character count so you have to get creative to make sure you’re under that limit. I did three events during the semester the first two being the World Views events sponsored by the religious studies division I attended the ones on Judaism and Hinduism and posted reviews on them in relation to how I saw an interpreted them as a Christian.  the final event was Diwali which was put on by SASA I found it very interesting to watch them dance and play the music and all the Traditions associated with that.

The writing that I will be expanding upon for my final writing Is my a poem About Maps this poem which is a very short poem about Maps I plan to expand heavily into a full longer length poem probably something Shakespearean and I’m going to take upon everything that I’ve learned in this class and apply it and Show what we have learned in the poem.
